A-P schools commemorate Veterans Day

The sacrifice of military members and their families was the focus of Veterans Day ceremonies at Aplington-Parkersburg High School and A-P Middle School Friday.

Addressing a crowd of veterans and students at the high school, recent A-P graduate Samantha Frey gave a first-hand account of her life as the daughter of a military father.

Frey, the daughter of James and Courtney Frey, read a series of letters exchanged between her parents during her father’s various deployments, the first of which was during Operation Desert Storm in Iraq in the mid- 90s.

Frey’s account detailed the struggles of families with relatives in the military and the uncertainty each day brings for both those that serve and their loved ones back home.
