Parkersburg voters adopt hotel/motel tax

Parkersburg voters overwhelmingly approved a hotel/motel tax that will provide funds to the city’s infrastructural and recreational causes.

The 7 percent tax will now be added to guests’ bills at Legend Trail Inn and Suites. Fifty percent of funds generated can be used for recreational purposes, where the other half can be used for public purposes such as towards the police department and library.

A complete list of eligible projects for hotel tax funds is outlined in Chapter 423A in Iowa Code.

The tax passed with nearly 90 percent of voters, or 249 votes, in favor of the tax. Just 28 voters casted a “no” vote. The measure needed 50 percent of the vote to pass.
