County, state agencies team up for Safety Plan

Teamwork and preparedness are key for public safety agencies to protect motorists on a city, county and state basis.

Earlier this month, more than a dozen entities, including the Butler County Engineer’s office, Butler County Emergency Management, the Butler County Sheriff, Iowa State Patrol, representatives from the Iowa DOT and Governor’s Safety Bureau provided input for the Butler County Local Road Safety Plan.

County Engineer John Riherd said the meeting analyzed driver behavior and crashes in the county compared to a statewide level and locations in the county that could benefit from increased safety measures.

Information and input provided during the meeting will then be used to develop the county’s Local Road Safety Plan, a statewide initiative to help counties increase driver safety.
