D-NH football advances with unbelievable finish
DIKE — Parker Kiewiet couldn’t believe it.
The Dike-New Hartford senior wide receiver couldn’t get open against a stout Panorama defense all game long.
In the fourth quarter, a breakthrough: senior quarterback Drew Sonnenberg somehow eluded the grasp of a Panther defender and launched the ball to Kiewiet, who made a catch-and-run for 60 yards to the end zone.
That would be the game-winning touchdown for the Wolverines, 21-14 victors on Friday, Nov. 1 to improve to 10-0. Panorama ends its season at 8-2.
The Wolverines advance to play West Lyon (9-1) in Dike on Friday with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
“I hadn’t been open all game,” Kiewiet said. “They were playing really good defense on me. I couldn’t believe that I was wide open. I was afraid I would drop it, because if I dropped that, that's the whole game right there. I was thinking, ‘pull it in.’ I couldn’t believe it.”
