Falcons take 2nd at Lady Wolverine Relays

DIKE – Sophia Jungling knew who to follow in the 3,000-meter run at last Thursday’s Lady Wolverine Relays in Dike.

More importantly, she knew when to kick it into gear and win the race.

After running with Dike-New Hartford’s Alayna Kollasch for most of the race, the A-P freshman and Kollasch sprinted to the finish in the final 100 meters. Jungling crossed the finish line first in 10 minutes, 57.19 seconds and set a new school record in the process.

The old record? Only two days old, 11:08.65, set by Jungling at a Nashua-Plainfield meet.

“She started going past me and I was thinking, I’ve gotta stick with her,” Jungling said. “I stayed right on her heels and knew I had more than her left and went right by her.”
