HOMETOWN ENTREPRENEURS: Downtown delight

The Falcon’s Nest in downtown Parkersburg is a favorite stop for many hungry souls in Parkersburg, and for Colleen Martindale, owning the restaurant for the past two years has been a dream come true.

Walk in, and you’ll immediately be immersed in the welcoming vintage vibe. Drink a Green River, and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. But the good food offered, friendly service, and enthusiasm for the A-P Falcons is anything but old fashioned.

Beef brisket is one of the most popular hot specials on the menu, and Martindale takes pride in her chicken fajita wraps and taco salads. Hard scoop ice cream makes delicious shakes, malts and sundaes. Bagels can be incorporated in delicious sandwiches, but her personal favorite is a pepper-turkey sub. The Falcon’s Nest recently acquired a smoker, and that’s something Martindale’s excited about. One or two of the hot specials each week will feature freshly smoked meat.

Martindale started working for her aunt’s restaurant as a teenager, and that gave her the dream of one day having a restaurant of her own.

“That is where a lot of the desire to own my own business came from. She was successful, … and I saw then how she made an impact on different people’s lives and touched them,” Martindale said. “Food can always make people happy.”
