HOMETOWN ENTREPRENEURS: Lawler & Swanson P.L.C.

The law firm of Lawler & Swanson has been serving the Parkersburg community for many years.

The firm opened in 1926 when Dale Van Eman and Williams Evans started a law office over the bank. In 1955, they remolded the present building and added more partners. Tom Lawler joined in 1973, and in 1985, the firm became his sole practice. Amy Swanson joined the practice in 1995.

The general practice handles real estate, estate planning, probates, trusts and tax returns, serving clients throughout Iowa, the nation and even internationally. “Neither one of us does litigation. We’re rarely in court,” Lawler said.

The attorneys specialize in agricultural law and serving farmers. Lawler grew up on a typical 1950s Iowa farm with cattle, chickens, pigs, corn and beans, earned his undergraduate degree from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, and his J.D. from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C.
