New Hartford Splash Pad committee unveils plans

Even though a swimming pool isn’t in the stars for New Hartford, an enthusiastic group of volunteers are working to bring a splash pad to town, where local families and kids can go to cool down on a hot, summer day.

Currently, the New Hartford Splash Pad committee has been in contact with an engineer who provided a potential design for a 60’ by 45’ splash pad that the committee hopes to construct at Packwaukee Park.

The design shows a number of water features that are perfect for kids of all ages, spread out across a concrete pad. The nearby shelter and bathrooms make the park the perfect location for a summer splash pad, with the potential for a concession stand even.

The committee estimated that the splash pad would cost around $150,000 to build, and they hope to fundraise for the first half of the project cost and apply for grants to cover the remaining portion.
