New math methods catch on at Aplington-Parkersburg

Adam Wauters’ new approach to teaching algebra at Aplington- Parkersburg High School didn’t start as an experiment. It was a necessity.

Wauters first introduced his “flipped classroom” method of teaching to his classes last year when his wife went into labor with their twin sons more than a month earlier than expected. The “f lipped classroom”

method has students watch and listen to recordings of Wauters’ lectures at home. The students then do problems related to the lecture in class.
