A-P girls salvage NICL East split

SUMNER – Hope abounds that a high-stakes final week for the Aplington-Parkersburg girls basketball team will yield results in the postseason.

The Falcons bounced back from a Monday loss to Dike-New Hartford with a big 70-32 win against Grand View Christian 24 hours later in Parkersburg and forced a share of the NICL East title with the Wolverines after taking down Sumner-Fredericksburg, 48-36, in Sumner on Saturday afternoon.

A-P and D-NH finished with 14-2 records in league play. The Falcons started the postseason, weather permitting, at home against Fort Dodge St. Edmond on Wednesday night.

"Anytime you can get a huge win like this, hopefully that's going to carry over to the postseason," A-P head coach Jason Berkey said. "The Dike game helped us be in that type of situation and I think it helped us going into the Sumner game. We stuck to our gameplan and the girls did exactly what they needed to do to come away with the victory."
