A-P shop students work on community projects

Students in Aplington-Parkersburg’s industrial technology program are putting their building skills to use in the real world, working on different projects around the community.

Earlier this week, students worked on fixing up the Santa House in downtown Parkersburg. After patching some holes in the roof, they finished up the inside of the shed, sealed windows and doors and put a fresh coat of paint on the outside.

The students are also working on building a shed for storage at the elementary school, as well as a garage outside of the track to store equipment.

A-P industrial technology instructor Barry Scott - who’s beginning his first year of teaching at AP - says his goal is to teach kids real-world skills that will come in handy no matter what they do after they leave the school.

“My goal is to be broad enough to cover everything, and give students lots of different opportunities to try different things,” he said. “We focus not only on building skills but also problem solving and things like that.”
