Red-led division: A-P girls open up big NICL East lead

PARKERSBURG – We before me.

The motto motivates Aplington-Parkersburg girls basketball this season, and it's something senior Jenna Bruns sees from all the girls on the Falcon roster.

"The younger girls are buying into it, too," Bruns said. "Everyone's pushing each other and the younger girls are making us better."

A-P did what it needed to do to not only open up a lead on Dike-New Hartford last Tuesday night but to finish the game off with clutch free-throw shooting and defense for a 50-35 victory over the Wolverines.

Bruns led A-P (6-0, 4-0 NICL East) in scoring with 20 points and also had a team-high eight rebounds. Sophia Jungling scored 15 points with an eye-popping 14 steals and Megan Johnson contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

Two days after the victory, A-P entered the Class 2A rankings in 11th, one spot ahead of Dike-New Hartford. D-NH was ranked ninth coming into Tuesday's game against the previously-unranked Falcons.

After A-P's win against Jesup on Friday, the Falcons started the final week of the 2018 schedule with a two-game lead in the North Iowa Cedar League East division.
