Snow lurks as spring arrives. Officials advise residents to be prepared for April snow showers.

The first day of spring means it’s time to pack in the shovels and hang up the coats, right? Unfortunately, that’s not always true.

Although spring officially began Monday, March 20, the snow may not stop.

“Typically, we do have snowfall after the start of spring,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Rod Donavon, out of Des Moines. “We can get measurable snowfall all the way through the good portion of April.”
