Students join in prayer for the A-P community

Everyone has troubles in life. For some, there are financial needs; some face depression, anxiety, anorexia, cancer, or other medical needs. Yet others are praying for a family member in need of salvation or for safe travels during the holidays. Whatever your needs are, a group of Aplington-Parkersburg students wants you to know that you have a God who loves you and a community that supports you.

The A-P high school student ministry, BASE, has placed 12 prayer request boxes at businesses throughout Aplington and Parkersburg. Those in need of prayer are welcome to write down their prayer requests. The students check the boxes each week. Led by seniors Jillian Simon and Sophia Jungling, the group of 15 students then gathers to pray.

They want community members to know that they are loved and to encourage them to prioritize their relationships with God.

“In our community, there are students who are willing to take time out of their day to pray for them, and over all, there is a God that loves them so immensely and would do absolutely anything to know them and to love them,” Simon said. “They’re just loved beyond what they can even imagine.”

Last year, the group started when students gathered to observe the annual “See You at the Pole” global prayer event. Rather than just observe this as a yearly day of prayer, the students continued the event every week last year. This summer, they decided to add community outreach to the endeavor.
