Work begins on Stout Astrodome concession stand

The concession stand at the Stout Astrodome saw its own type of foul – or fowl, in this instance – before it moved to the ball field in the 1950s.

Duane Nevenhoven said his father used the building as a brooder house for chickens until it ended up at the diamond on the edge of town. A service counter and window were added, along with some other tweaks, to transform it into a concession stand.

Now, the Stout Ballpark Task Force, led by a group of Reformed Church of Stout members, is looking to modernize its facility with a new concession stand and attached bathroom. A water main was placed earlier this summer, which formally began the process for the new facility.
