Charlene was born on February 1, 1933, in Ottosen, Iowa, to Oscar William Movick and Evelyn Pearl Anderegg Movick. On August 29, 1951, she was united in marriage to Merrildean Charles Hanson at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Together they shared a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication to their family.
Throughout their marriage, Charlene and Merrildean lived in many communities, including Madelia, Minnesota; Fenton, Iowa; and Aplington, Iowa, where they operated the Village Motel. In 1991, they retired in Hampton, Iowa, where Charlene became an active member of the community and a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Charlene was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life centered around caring for others. She was an avid gardener and took great joy in growing flowers, especially as a member of the Hampton Garden Club. Her home was a gathering place, filled with the warmth of homemade meals and the comforting smell of fresh-baked bread and cinnamon rolls. Her love and care extended far beyond the kitchen—she was her grandchildren’s greatest supporter, often driving them to dance and cheering them on in all they did.
Charlene is survived by her children: Cheryl Botten of Mesa, AZ; Kevin (Susan) Hanson of Fenton, IA; and Kerri (Jeff) Mohwinkle of Aplington, IA. She leaves behind 15 cherished grandchildren: Jodi (Todd) Maas, Jessica (Troy) Mediger, Jason (Kelly) Eager, Joshua (Jen) Eager, Jennifer (Tom) Foley, Jeremy Frechette, Nathan (Sarah) Hanson, Kiyra Knowles, Lance (Tracy) Hanson, Chelsie (Brandon) Rolling, Haylie Hanson, Jonathon Mohwinkle, Kaitlyn (Carter) Harris, Kasidy Mohwinkle, and Kinsey Mohwinkle; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Roberta Movick; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Jim and Sue Garrett.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merrildean, two brothers, her beloved daughter Arlis Frechette, and great-grandson Larzen Hanson.
Memorials may be directed to the family in loving memory of Charlene.
