Jeffrey “Jeff” Mark Matura, 57

Jeffrey “Jeff” Mark Matura, age 57, of Sumner, Iowa, was born the son of Dennis Anthony and Noreen Linda (Peters) Matura, on February 11, 1968, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  He graduated from Aplington High School in Aplington, Iowa, in 1986.  After graduation, he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in engineering at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo.  

Jeff moved to Decorah and worked at Rockwell as an engineer and in the late 90’s, he transferred to their Sumner facility.  He worked there until the company closed in 2010.  He then worked at John Deere as a factory automation engineer.  Jeff also co-owned a duck call company, “Take’Em”.

Jeff was married to Leota Stolka and they were blessed with two children.  The couple later divorced.  Jeff met Mardith Olson and she became a very special person in his life.  They enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, taking walks every night and many other outdoor activities.  Jeff built duck blinds and even his own boat.

 Jeff died on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Unity Point Health – Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.  Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Noreen Matura.

Jeff is survived by his loving partner, Mardith Olson; two children, Reed Matura of Sumner and Lauren (Brady) Janssen of Fairbank, Iowa; two grandchildren, Sloane Janssen and Sutton Janssen; a brother, Bob Matura of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister, Michelle (Jeff) Simons of Vero Beach, Florida; and many family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  on Tuesday, September 23, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Aplington Chapel in Aplington.

A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the American Legion Hall in Sumner.  Memorials may be directed to Iowa Children’s Hospital or St. Judes Children’s Hospital.  Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Aplington Chapel is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
