Michael John DeGroote, 63

Michael John DeGroote, age 63, of New Hartford, Iowa, was born the son of Marion and Hannah Mae (Gersema) DeGroote on October 31, 1962, in Bremer County, Waverly, Iowa. He received his education and graduated May 17, 1981, from Parkersburg High School.
Mike made his home on an acreage near New Hartford. He had a special companion, Teresa Theel, until she passed away on March 19, 2018. He owned and operated TNT Trapping & Supply for many years. He also worked at Sinclair Elevator in Parkersburg and John Deere in Waterloo.
Mike was in fellowship with Christians at Stout Gospel Hall, Stout, Iowa. He had a special love for breeding and raising German Shephard dogs. Mike was hard working and family orientated. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping with his son, Tony, and also going with family and friends.
Mike passed away at home on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from complications of cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Hannah DeGroote, and one sister, Janice Jungling.
Mike is survived by one son, Tony (Abby Kastli) of Parkersburg; one daughter, Tasha DeGroote of Hudson; one brother, Marion Jr. “Butch” DeGroote of Aplington; three sisters, Shirley Janssen of Parkersburg, Janet Junker of Parkersburg and Donna (Randy) Schrock of Denver; four nieces and nephews, Kim (Chad), Zach (Jonnah), Ellie (Aaron), Kris (Rich) and Melissa; and many grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Parkersburg. Mr. Laverne Weber and Mr. Sid Hayes officiated the service. The congregation sang “My Redeemer” and “Without A Cloud Between”. The burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg, with Tony DeGroote, Ryan Bixby, Jordan Simon, Aidan Junker, Zach Junker and Owen Thomas serving as Casketbearers. “Amazing Grace” was sung at the committal service.
Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services and one hour before the funeral service. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
