D-NH football gets away from Sailors late

DIKE – Dike-New Hartford football drummed up 450 yards of total offense for a 42-14 season-opening victory on the home field in Dike on Friday.

The Wolverines outscored the Sailors 28-7 after halftime.

Jerek Hall rushed 26 times for 176 yards and three touchdowns. Benton Bixby added 224 yards on 13-of-22 passing with two touchdowns and one interception. Braxten Johnson grabbed five Bixby passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns and Micah Walston added 79 yards on five receptions.

Defensively, Nick Reinicke made seven total tackles with two for a loss. Jace Hall added five total tackles and Wil Textor made 4.5 stops.

The Wolverines also picked off Columbus three times, one each for Jerek Hall, Colin Meester and Gus Varney. 

Dike-New Hartford heads to Grundy Center on Friday in a battle of ranked teams.
