Douglas Ray Mulder, 74

Douglas Ray Mulder, age 74, of Aplington, Iowa, died April 5, 2024, under hospice care. He was born August 26, 1949, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of DeWitt and Arlene (Ackerson) Mulder. He graduated from Waterloo West High in 1967. 

On December 12, 1969, Doug was united in marriage with Carolyn Backer at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. They had two sons and moved to Aplington in 1976.

Doug worked at Hinson Mfg. from graduation until they closed in 1983. Then he worked at various farm and manufacturing jobs until he started at John Deere in 1997. He was  a loyal member of UAW 838.

He was a homebody that loved living in the country. He spent time with his sons. Jeremy has memories of going to auctions, horse, livestock, farm and machinery with his dad. Mike liked learning carpentry, plumbing and electrical work with him. Doug enjoyed reading many westerns and was happy to have a good supply of large prints at the library in his later years. He also had horses to play with. In 1991 Doug and Carol built themselves a new home, with the help of their sons and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Nancy Mulder; parent-in-laws and brother-in-law, Harry Backer.

Doug will be deeply missed by his wife, Carolyn of Aplington, IA; two sons, Michael (Beth) Mulder, of Honey Creek, IA and Jeremy (Cheryl) Mulder of Parkersburg, IA; 8 granddaughters; 8 great grandchildren; two sisters, Sally McEntire and Jackie Prior; three brothers, Dennis (Betty Ann) Mulder, Kevan Mulder, and Tim (Colette) Mulder; and many loving in laws. 

A Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Parkersburg Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude or Jehovah’s Witnesses. Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
