Mackie, Hempen on all-state boys teams

Aplington-Parkersburg’s Jayden Mackie and Garrett Hempen received recognition on the IPSWA’s boys basketball all-state teams released on Tuesday.

Mackie was a first-team selection to the Class 2A team and Hempen was picked to the third team.

Ames’ Tamin Lipsey was selected as Mr. Basketball.

Mackie, a senior, averaged 20.2 points per game for the Falcons this season. He added 3.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game and made 44 3-pointers. It’s his second consecutive first-team all-state honor on the IPSWA team.

Hempen, a junior, scored 15.6 points per game and averaged 3.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.4 steals for A-P.
