Marjorie Ann Siebenga, 87

Marjorie Ann Siebenga, age 87, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Herman and Jennie (Schriever) Menken on April 8, 1936, near Greene, Iowa in Butler County. Marj received her education in the Allison Schools.  

On November 24, 1954, Marj was united in marriage with Joseph “Bill” William Siebenga at the Christian Reformed Church parsonage in Austinville, Iowa. After marriage the couple briefly lived in Parkersburg before moving to Wellsburg, Iowa. In 1960, Marj and Bill moved back to Parkersburg. Through the years Marj was a loving mother, homemaker, and worked as a seamstress for the University of Northern Iowa for 12 years. She owned and operated Marjorie’s Ceramics out of her home in Parkersburg, where she would host ceramic and pottery classes weekly.

Marj was a member of Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg and a member of the Ladies Aid Society. In her spare time, she enjoyed oil painting landscapes and sewing. She would often sew clothing and wedding dresses for others. Marj loved quilting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchild. Her favorite times of the year were Christmas and birthdays to spend time with family.

  On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Marj died at Grand Jivante in Ackley, Iowa, of natural causes. Marj was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, on April 30, 2007; one daughter, Mari Jo Siebenga; parents, Herman and Jennie Menken; one sister, Marlys Woodruff; two brothers, Stanley and Merlin Menken; and one son-in-law, Matthew Meether.

Marj is survived by one son, Mark Siebenga of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Sharlene (Gregg) Knox of Madrid, Iowa, and Lisa Meether of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Kirsten Siebenga, Hillary (Lee) Petersen, Bryant Knox, Jennifer (David) Rogers, and Scott Meether; one great grandchild, Kade Petersen; brother-in-law, Richard Woodruff of Wilmington, Delaware; and sister-in-law, Linda Menken of Central City, Iowa.

A family graveside service was held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.  Rev. Stewart DeJong from Austinville Christian Reformed Church officiated the service.  Honorary Casketbearers were Kirsten Siebenga, Hillary Petersen, Bryant Knox, Jennifer Rogers, Scott Meether and Kade Petersen.

A public visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Parkersburg Funeral Home.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
