New Hartford council approves Dollar General building permit

The New Hartford City Council recently approved rezoning applications and a building permit to make way for a 10,640-square-foot Dollar General building on the west edge of Main Street.

NEW HARTFORD - The New Hartford City Council approved rezoning amendments and a building permit to make way for a new 10,640-square-foot Dollar General building as part of regular business on March 1 at City Hall.

The building will be located on the north side of the west end of Main Street, just off the curve at Highway 57. The existing property is vacant.

The motions to make way for the building passed unanimously at the council meeting, and several in attendance spoke favorably of the benefit it will bring to the city. City Clerk Shawna Hagen said that she had witnessed many citizens' excitement about the incoming store and had not received any written comments or phone calls against the project.

In other business, the council postponed the Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Hearing to 5:30 p.m. on April 5 to allow time for adjustments created by a recent Iowa law that corrected property tax rollback amounts.
