A-P board approves HVAC, bus bids

PARKERSBURG – The Aplington-Parkersburg School Board approved a pair of items related to HVAC systems at A-P High School during regular business on Oct. 17 at the A-P High School library.

The board unanimously approved a control system upgrade bid from Trane in the amount of $45,150 and a repair bid of $20,512.12 from McCarter HVAC LLC.

Also approved was a purchase of two used buses from Hoglund Bus Company in an amount not to exceed $70,000, contingent on on-site inspection and engine requirements.

The board also approved an application to the School Budget Review Committee for $5,503.94 for special education (deficit) costs during the 2021-22 school year.

Superintendent Travis Fleshner updated the board on a variety of topics, including voter and board-approved PPEL implications and timelines, as well as plans for special meetings and work sessions to explore facility upgrades; controlled access for the high school ordered and awaiting installation, three new external camera systems for busses that are on the way and an announcement that staffing levels would be reviewed with the administrative team in early November to assess future needs.

In other business, the board:

- Approved resignations from Samantha Cummings and Maggi Abbas, 7th/8th Grade Play Directors;

- Approved contract offers to Shawn Krusey, high school assistant girls basketball coach; Amy Alexander, Aplington Elementary Gen Ed Associate; and Rebecca Adreon, food service aide to Parkersburg Elementary Head Cook;

- Approved Elisabeth Bieber as High School Musical volunteer;

- Approved second reading of Board Policy Review 100 & 200 series with changes as presented to 100 Series;

- Approved first reading of Board Policy Review 300 series;

- Approved first reading of a revision increasing superintendent purchase approval authority to $10,000.
