A-P boys to battle two ranked 1A teams

Aplington-Parkersburg boys basketball will put its undefeated season on the line against two of the best teams in Class 1A this week.

The Falcons (14-0) traveled to Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Tuesday against the fourth-ranked Rebels and end the week back home against Wapsie Valley, ranked eighth, on Friday.

A-P, rated second in the poll from the IHSAA, pounded the competition last week with blowout victories against Columbus, 76-24; Union, 83-56; and Denver, 85-41.

Central Lyon remains the number one team in Class 2A this week.

A-P 76, COLUMBUS 24: Garrett Hempen and Gavin Thomas scored 17 and 15, respectively, in the one-sided win against the Sailors.

Martez Wiggley added nine points and a team-leading six rebounds; Nick Neuroth added five rebounds and eight assists.

A-P 83, UNION 56: Martez Wiggley put up a massive 22 points and 15 rebounds as the Falcons rolled in La Porte City.

Wiggley was 9-of-19 shooting. Garrett Hempen contributed 19 points and Gavin Thomas had 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Cooper Hoff came off the bench with seven points.

A-P 85, DENVER 41: The Falcons rained down 11 3-pointers made in Friday’s road win against the Cyclones.

Garrett Hempen scored 27 total points including 2 three-pointers, Nick Neuroth poured in 20 points including three treys but Gavin Thomas led the way with four 3-point baskets toward his 14 points total, adding seven rebounds.

Will Hodges and Grant Wedeking each added one more three-pointer to the pile.
