Plans are in the works for a new pickleball complex in Parkersburg with construction targeted to start next spring.

The project is planned for a tournament-grade four-court pickleball complex to be built at the Diamonds and Fields Sports Complex. The construction will include a perimeter wind fence and courtside room for spectators.

In a press release, board members indicated several benefits to the complex:

- Spurring growth in the sport with an improved playing surface and facility -- participation in the local pickleball league has doubled since 2020, in addition to increased numbers of recreational players;

- Drawing attention to the city with tournament-grade courts that will bring in people and their business to Parkersburg and local establishments;

- Serving as a community gathering place for individuals in and out of town, including families of all ages enjoying the sport;

- Providing a physical activity for all ages as a fun way to exercise.

The project board members are asking for community help in donating to the construction effort. Those interested in donating, or with any further questions on the project, are asked to contact one of the five board members: Joe Neymeyer, Kirk Klooster, Tim Krausmann, Brian Jungling and Kyle Tingle.
