PARKERSBURG – Families hunting for outdoor fun in Parkersburg will get a rock-solid opportunity later this month.

After the success of the Christmas-themed rock hunt earlier this winter, another hunt is set to begin after the 50 rocks are hidden on Jan. 28 in an area from the Kothe Memorial Library, north to the end of the business district on 3rd Street.

Like the previous hunt, there will be a religious focus to the hunt as the rocks will have "Jesus Loves You" painted on the rock face.

Those who find rocks can drop them off with their name and phone number in a drawing box at Sip N Shop, 225 3rd Street, in Parkersburg. Contest entries are limited to one per rock, and one rock per person.

The rocks will carry the message "Jesus Loves You" as the hunt, like the previous one, carries a religious focus.

The grand prize is a much bigger rock with a brightly-painted photo of "an image of Jesus and what He might appear when He comes again with a scripture reference on the back," according to a press release about the hunt. Second prize will receive a special Sip N Shop drink and third prize will be a pastry from the downtown establishment.

The prize drawing will be held Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Sip N Shop.

"All ages are welcome to participate in seeking Jesus," the release stated.
