Rodney Richardson

Rodney “Rod” Richardson was born March 31, 1949 in Swea City, Iowa to Russell and Donna (Torgerson) Richardson. Rod attended school in Lanesboro, Lake City, Armstrong. He graduated in 1967 from Swea City. In March 1969 Rod was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a personnel service clerk in Germany until March 1971.
Rod worked most of his life in the construction business as a millwright carpenter and concrete worker. Rod came to Parkersburg in 1986 where he met the love of his life Tammy Schell.
Rod enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, NASCAR, Elvis and was a Minnesota Viking fan. He also enjoyed all the times he spent with his grandchildren and attending their activities. Some of Rod’s greatest moments were spent on the banks of rivers and ponds with his grandchildren and son Dustin.
Rod passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa, due to natural causes. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Donna Richardson; one nephew, Zack Inglett, four brothers-in-law, Mike Inglett, Randy Lindquist, Tim Guerdet, and Robert Schell; one sister-in-law, Cindy Schell; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Harmena Schell.
Rod is survived by the love of his life Tammy of Aplington; one son Dustin Schell of Aplington; three grandchildren, Ellah (Colton), Dalton, and Natalee Schell; two brothers, Russell (Red) Richardson of Armstrong, Iowa and Rance Richardson of Swea City, Iowa; four sisters Cosy Richardson Gray of Sun Lakes Arizona, Dee Guerdet of Atlantic, Iowa, Cristy Lindquist of Fairmont, Minnesota; Kelly (Brad) Richardson of Sparks, Nevada; many nieces and nephews and his lifelong friend Jason “J.P.” Hinrichsen of Swea City.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. Pastor Jeremy Van Genderen will officiate the service. Honorary Casketbearers will be Ellah Schell, Dalton Schell, Natalee Schell and Dustin Schell. Military rites will be conducted by Parkersburg American Legion Post #205.
 A public visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Parkersburg. Memorials may be directed to the family.
