Timothy Christian School is setting up for its spec’n dicken fundraiser next Monday, Jan. 9 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Parkersburg Veterans Building.

The dinner is an authentic German dish following traditions surrounding the new year where it is served either “at noon or at night,” according to Timothy Christian development director Dale Akkerman.

“This is a German area where we’re at and grandpas and grandmas remember that and have kept up that tradition,” Akkerman added.

The pancake is made with wheat flour, and ground bacon and pork sprinkled into the batter and cooked into the pancake. Just in case, there are regular pancakes on offer as well and sugar-free syrup options available.

Free-will donations are accepted for the meal. Akkerman said that while the dinner’s success has often depended on weather conditions that night, last year’s meal was a sold-out success for the school.

Timothy Christian looks forward to next week’s dinner kicking off 2023 for the school, with Akkerman noting that six kindergarten students have already signed up for next fall.

“It’s been a very good year,” Akkerman said of 2022.
