Aplington-Parkersburg freshman Kendall Riherd is off to a strong start as a high school golfer.

She won medalist honors in a pair of meets last week: Tuesday at Ackley Country Club and Thursday at Legend Trail.

Riherd scored a 47 in Ackley, then shot a 54 at the home course.

She is one of three Falcon girls that have played so far this season along with fellow freshmen Abigail Everts and Ava Mann.

In Tuesday’s match at Ackley, Everts shot a 69. Everts and Mann shot 75 and 76, respectively, on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Aplington-Parkersburg boys were second in a triangular with AGWSR and BCLUW in Wellsburg last Tuesday and then came home to pick up a four-stroke win over Union at Legend Trail.

Will Steege and Cooper Hoff shot 41s to lead the Falcons on Tuesday. Kaden Campbell added a 44 and Garrett Hempen and Kale Riherd each shot 46s; Jace Pruisner carded a 51 to round out the varsity six in Wellsburg.

Back home, Hempen was the low man for the Falcons on Thursday, shooting a 39, two strokes behind meet medalist Lincoln Mehlert of Union. Will Steege turned in a 40, Kaden Campbell shot a 42 and Cooper Hoff rounded out the top four with a 47.

The Falcons played at South Hills in Waterloo on Tuesday against the Columbus Sailors and Hudson Pirates, in a meet hosted by the Sailors. The sea-and-air battle continues next Monday, April 19, in a duel with the Pirates back at South Hills.
