Plainfield woman offers transportation for riders in need
While Karen Wedeking’s “carriage” doesn’t have a horse and buggy, it does have a driver that strives to ensure elderly people in the area have a safe ride to their appointments. Wedeking started Karen’s Karriage after bringing her father to and from Waterloo, Waverly and Iowa City for medical appointments. It was then she realized that elderly residents needed an affordable, reliable mode of transportation to doctors, hair salons and everything in between.
When Wedeking’s “Karriage”, a Chevrolet Impala, arrives at an appointment, she will sit and wait for the rider to finish and bring him or her home when it’s over. She said not only does that give them a way to get from place to place, but it provides support and comfort as well.
“It helps them feel like they’re not alone and they don’t have to be scared,” she said.
