Two A-P archers qualify for nationals

DES MOINES – Aplington-Parkersburg middle school archers Kolbon Hoppenworth and Kalob Hoppenworth have qualified for a national tournament later this year after their performance at last weekend’s NASP state archery tournament in Des Moines.

Kolbon, an eighth grader, placed 4th in 3D among middle schoolers grades 6-8 with a 283 score. Kalob, a sixth grader, was sixth in the same division with a 279.

The US Eastern National Tournament will be held May 12-14 in Louisville, Kentucky.

A-P placed 15th out of 28 teams in high school bullseye with a 3,277 final score. The Falcons were 17th out of 29 teams with a 3,121 final score, beating their seeding ranking of 21st.

LeeAnn Bovy was 24th out of 350 high school girls in bullseye with a 283 score; Carlee Meester was 27th with a 282.

In the 3D discipline, the high school team was 12th with a 1,628 score. The middle school was ranked 21st but finished seventh out of 21 teams with a 1,587 final score.

Among high schoolers in 3D, Hannah Buttjer scored 275 to finish 32nd among high school girls, Kaylee Johnson was 33rd with a 274 and LeeAnn Bovy was 36th with a 273. Indy Herrmann placed 19th in 3D among middle school girls with a 264; Briley Junker was 34th with a 257.
