Robert “Bob” Jaye Meester, 78

Robert “Bob” Jaye Meester, age 78, of Grundy Center, Iowa, was born the son of Johannes Alfred and Dorothy Mavis (Ross) Meester on October 7, 1946, in Grundy Center, Iowa. He graduated from the Wellsburg High School in 1965. Bob served in the United States Army from August 13, 1966, and was honorably discharged on November 1, 1971.
On February 23, 1968, Bob was united in marriage with Georgiann Brandenburg at the Reformed Church, in Sully, Iowa. They lived a short time in Dike, Iowa, and made their home in Buck Grove, Iowa for five years, and then settled to their current farm in Grundy Center. Bob was a farmer nearly his entire life. He also raised livestock for a short time and also worked at Waterloo Industries.
Bob was baptized and confirmed at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland and attended the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. In his earlier years he enjoyed going hunting, later he especially enjoyed golfing and played in league at Beaver Meadows Golf Course in Parkesburg. He loved to go boating and fishing, especially up north on Lake Winnie, MN, where he made many special memories with Georgiann, his children and grandchildren. In the winters Bob and Georgiann were snowbirds each winter at Ft. Meyer, Florida. Bob was a fun-loving guy who very much enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. Bob even had a burger named after him at the former Tooter’s Restaurant in Parkersburg, the “Barbarian Bob Burger”.
On Saturday, August 9, 2025, Bob passed away at MercyOne Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo, Iowa, from natural causes. He was preceded in death by his son, Camron Meester; his parents, Joe and Mavis Meester; a brother, Leon Meester; a son-in-law, Martin Becker; and a daughter-in-law, Janet Meester.
Bob is survived by his wife, Georgiann Meester; four children, Kim Brown of Cedar Falls, Kerry Becker of Chicago, Casey Meester of Wellsburg, and Kelli DeVries of Grundy Center; seven grandchildren, Shayla Brown, Chloe and Marty Becker, Devin Meester, Caden Meester, Rory and Ralston DeVries; a brother, Russell (Joan) Meester of Holland; two sisters, Carol Bolin of Texas, and Kaylene (Dave) Bern of Kansas City, MO; and a sister-in-law, Jean Meester of Holland.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Parkersburg. Pastor Russell Boersma officiated the service. Special music, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “How Great Thou Art” and “In The Garden” was played. Casketbearers were Devin Meester, Marty Becker, Rory DeVries, Caden Meester, Ralston DeVries and Casey Meester. Military rites were conducted by the Parkersburg American Legion Post 285. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Cemetery in Holland, Iowa.
